The Wessex Folk Festival, which generally occurs on the first weekend in June, is a community based organisation run by volunteers and supported by local businesses and fund raising.

The festival's aim is to promote, support and encourage live performance, especially that which is rooted in the traditions of the area. Since 2006, the focus of the event has been Hope Square and Weymouth Old Harbour, with activities ranging from pub music sessions, showcases, dance displays and full blown concerts.
